As the last working day of 2011 draws to a close, we have a quick recap of the events that have happened over the past 12 months:

January 2011 – A great start to the year as Meachers Global Logistics become one of the first in the UK to gain Full AEO Accreditation; giving us access to simplified customs procedures and being recognised as a safe & secure freight operator.

March 2011 – We host a breakfast seminar to explain the benefits of using AEO and what it means when trading with businesses overseas, especially in America. A very successful event which was of great benefit to many of our customers.

May 2011 – Meachers Global Logistics secure a new multi year contract extension with south coast packaging firm Huhtamaki.

July 2011 - Gurit UK choose Meachers for all their stock holding requirements in Southampton; holding stock of raw goods all the way through to finished product.

September 2011 – September saw us joining the Global Freight Group, giving us a truly global reach when dealing with countries from all over the world. We also attended the annual GFG conference in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

November 2011 - In November, we had a senior management change whereby Bob Terris moved into role of Chairman and his son Stuart Terris, took on the role of Managing Director. Clive Broadley also retired after a long standing commitment to the company. His wealth of knowledge and experience will be hard to replace.

December 2011 – As we move into 2012, we begin the search for a new sales person to join the team and help grow the business. Changes are afoot for next year!

We have lots to look forward to in 2012 and are always looking for new and intelligent ways of moving goods from A-B. We will use the experiences of the last 12 months as a good starting point for next year and continue to grow and adapt to the ever changing world that is Logistics.

And finally a big Thank You to all of our staff – without your hard work an effort, none of this would be possible!

In accordance with standard practice, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Essex Police Force have launched an investigation into the accident; Meachers Global Logistics together with the Port of Tilbury are helping both the police and HSE with their investigations.

The management and staff at Meachers Global Logistics are deeply saddened by the death of Peter and extend their deepest sympathy to his family at this difficult time.

Meachers Global Logistics is not in a position to make any further comments until the finding of the HSE report are published.

Stuart Terris will be appointed Managing Director and will replace Bob Terris who will move into the role of Chairman of the Company.  The move will be effective from the 1^st November 2011.

In addition, Clive Broadley, who has headed the Freight Forwarding division will retire at the end of October 2011, but will be retained as a consultant advising the board on international activities.

The changes represent the final phase of the strategic plan that the company set out three years ago which included the organisation setting out new strategic direction, rebranding into Meachers Global Logistics and a succession plan for the senior management team.

Commenting on the changes, Bob Terris said: “The changes recognise the need for forward planning and are part of the longer-term strategy which acknowledges that continuity and succession are key to the development of the Company.

The Board boasts a wealth of experience and can demonstrate strong financial and commercial awareness.  I am confident that it is well placed to meet all of the requirements of the modern business environment.”

Stuart Terris, added: “I’m proud to take on the role of Managing Director.  The business has developed on a basis of high quality service at competitive prices, combined with continued investment in people, equipment and facilities. We have evolved continually to meet the changing needs of the market place and that will continue be one of our objectives.”

Stuart Terris, aged 41, graduated from the University of Kent with an honors degree in Accountancy.  He is a qualified Chartered Accountant and has developed extensive knowledge of the logistics industry in his twenty years with the business and more latterly with his roles as Group Operations Directors (2008) and Deputy Managing Director (2010).

Bob Terris, has been Managing Director of Meachers Global Logistics for 30 years.  During almost 50 years with the Company he has developed it into one of the UK’s leading independent global logistic providers.
